H2Y

HIIT HOT YOGA

  • The practice that combines high intensity interval training and hot vinyasa. It was created with the intention to burn away any impurity and stagnancy from our Nadis (energy channels). It is important to keep our Nadis clear because they are responsible to carry prana, our life force energy.
  • Although this is not a typical traditional yoga, once we expand into another level of vibration during the class, we start to touch base with our own spirituality. We will come alive after each practice, even in the most fatigue moments.
  • The two together, HIIT and Hot Yoga are the best combo to stimulate our Tapa (inner fire) to burn away the unnecessary, leaving us with concentrated substance that we need to charge forward.
  • H2Y involves strength and cardio training plus a sprinkle of spirituality goodness. Expect short breath work, meditation, vinyasa flow, HIIT, and active restorative in this practice. Focusing on targeted muscle group, using light weight and resistance band, ending with core sequence, deep stretches and as we arriving in Savasana, we would experience the state of bliss. Surrender. Letting go.
  • A small tweak to the intensity or structure of your workouts can elevate the phenomenon known as excessive post-exercise oxygen consumption (EPOC) for hours after your workouts are over. That extra burn can translate into more total calories burned, additional weight loss benefits and an enhanced performance during each session.

EPOC (the Afterburn Effect) Defined

EPOC refers to the elevation in metabolism (rate that calories are burned) after an exercise session ends. The increased metabolism is linked to increased consumption of oxygen, which is required to help the body restore and return to its pre-exercise state.

Contributing factors to a higher EPOC include:

  • The re-synthesis of lactate to glycogen (stored carbohydrate in the muscles and liver)
  • Re-oxygenation of the myoglobin and hemoglobin
  • Increased ventilation
  • Elevated heart rate
  • Elevated neurotransmitters/hormones adrenaline and noradrenaline related to the central nervous system
  • Higher core temperature

Mann, T.N., et al. 2014. Effect of exercise intensity on post-exercise oxygen consumption and heart rate recovery.  European Journal of Applied Physiology, 114 (9), 1809-20.

The Story of H2Y

H2Y is the product of 2020 pandemic lock down. It was such an intensity moment full of fears and worries. Scared to get drown by the darkness, Tika, spent hours, 5 days a week in the heated studio. Battling her own demon. After she put together the perfect sequence that worked well together, she branded the practice and called it H2Y, stands for HIIT Hot Yoga. H2Y has helped her and her quarantine Ohana to stay level throughout the uncertainty of 2020. It is beyond the physical and mental practice, it allows us to tap into our deep spiritual existence. It was born to overcome the struggle, to meet eye to eye with the intensity. It has becoming the tool throughout the pandemic.

When the lock down was lifted in June Tika started to introduce the practice to the community.
